To make a counseling appointment,

I attended California State University, Fullerton (CSUF) and earned my Bachelor of Science degree in Health Science. While at CSUF, I worked on campus in the Career Center where I became passionate about assisting students with career exploration, resume/cover letter writing, interview preparation, researching graduate/professional school, and finding internship/career opportunities. My passion led me to further my education and obtain my Master of Science degree in Counseling from California State University, Long Beach. Prior to working at Cypress College, I worked at Pasadena City College as a Student Success Coach helping second year and third year community college students accomplish their academic and professional goals. Lastly, I worked at Los Angeles Harbor College as a Career Guidance Counseling Assistant in the Transfer Center to further assist students in navigating the transfer process.

As a first generation, low income, college graduate, I have the opportunity to build transparency, construct rapport, and strengthen the motivation students have in the community college setting. My journey in higher education began at the University of California, Davis (UCD), where I received a Bachelor of Arts in Chicano Studies and Spanish Literature. As an advocate for higher education, student equity, and diversity I served as a Student Program Advisor for TRIO Educational Talent Search. This led me to pursue a Master’s degree in Education Counseling from USC Rossier School of Education, where I learned to put our counseling and student development theories into practice. Prior to working at Cypress College, I have worked as General, STEM, and EOP&S adjunct counselor for multiple community colleges. These include West Los Angeles College (WLAC), Pasadena City College (PCC), Santa Ana College (SAC), and Santa Monica College (SMC). Overall, these experiences have shaped the counselor I am today; and I am committed to helping students develop intellectual curiosity and personal growth as they pursue a higher education here, at Cypress College.

I am an immigrant from Mexico, first-generation college graduate and a product of the community college system. After attending Hartnell College, I transferred to California State University, Long Beach (CSULB) and earned my Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration.  While at CSULB, I worked as a College Advisor and enjoyed educating high school seniors and families about college admissions and financial aid or scholarship possibilities. My passion led me to pursue a Master’s of Science in Counseling from CSU Dominguez Hills. Prior to working at Cypress College, I have worked with general, undocumented, STEM, and non-traditional college students from Cerritos and LA Harbor College. I am committed to assisting and inspiring underrepresented students pursue a higher education despite the academic, financial, or legal barriers.

I attended the University of California at Los Angeles (UCLA), where I earned a bachelor’s degree in Chicano/a Studies and minored in education. While at UCLA, I completed a three-month internship at the Post secondary Education Commission in Sacramento, where I did research on the California Master Plan for Higher Education. My passion to serve community college students stems from my educational experiences, especially with my community college counselor, who encouraged me and believed in me. My desire to work with community college students led me to obtain a master’s degree in Educational Counseling from the University of Southern California. Prior to working at Cypress College, I worked at Pasadena City College, where I have supported students in their first and second year of college.
